Using the market to address climate change
Does Pope Francis understand the free market? Certainly some critics of his encyclical on the environment, "Laudato Siā", claim he does not. But venture capitalist and social entrepreneur, John Denniston, and the Ethics Centerās Director of Leadership Ethics, Ann Skeet, see wisdom in the popeās argument that moral considerations should temper the approach of businesses to their environmental responsibilities.
John Dennistonās remarks start at 3:40 in this video; Ann Skeetās begin at 31:30. This presentation was part of a larger conversation about "Laudato Siā," āOur Future on a Shared Planet: Silicon Valley in Conversation with the Environmental Teachings of Pope Francis,ā sponsored by SCUās Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education, Nov 3-4, 2015.
